JSJ Hell Bird “Updated”

I recently reached bait number 666 in my Trout line and figured I would do a short run of baits called the Hell Bird.

JSJ Hell bird

This is what I came up with, It is a Snack Size Trout painted up like a red headed black bird. The fins are  trimmed down slightly and it has a 4 prop buzz blade in place of the normal tail. The bait will sit tail down at a stand still and the buzz blade will turn at the slightest movment. All of the Hell Birds will come with 1/0 Owners, one size bigger than the normal Snack Size. This helps balance the bait a little better with the Buzz blade, and will increase hook ups will the extra bulk in the tail.

This swimbait-buzzbait bait is awsome, it can be direct retrieved or popped in short birsts to spit up a ton of water. I have killed them on the Delta and Clear Lake on this bait so far.

The Hell Bird is best fished near reeds and trees where our little bird friends like to hang out.

I Just delivered a batch of these baits to Delta Outdoors in Oakley Ca.

I have a couple new baits that are nearing the end of the testing phase and are back in for final detail, I may post photos soon so keep posted.

Both of the new baits will probably be available this coming show season.

Snack Size Hitch Takes 2nd Place at the HBC Clear Lake

I had a pleasant surprise yesterday as I got an e-mail from Bob Cepek. Bob had just fished the HBC at Clear Lake and came in 2nd place. Well he went on to tell me the good news. Bob had picked up a new Snack Size Hitch in Lakeport and decided to use it during the tournament.

As he described it He brought the bait up on stage and Bryron Velvick took it from him, I guess a discussion went on as to who was going to keep the bait. Bob just barely got it back.

Byron asked Bob how many casts it took to catch the fish. He explained to him about twenty but did not tell Byron that he was just getting used to it for the first 10 to 15.

I don’t know how I missed all of this I must have been in la la land somewhere talking swimbaits with someone down on the dock.

The sad part is that Bob told me he missed a fish that he thinks would have won the thing.
Congratulations Bob on your 2nd place finish and thank you for your support.

I had better get back to making baits, sounds like I may have a swarm of new orders soon.

Keep an eye out this week. My next article will be about crankin Clear Lake.

New Snack Size Trout swimbait color

DSC_0007

I just got done spraying the first batch of chartreuse shad Snack size swimbaits, I spent a bit of time messing with base colors to get the pearl to read right after spraying it. I cannot wait to get my first fish on this color.

I will be out to Lake Sonoma with Tom Leogrande next week to get the first video of fish being caught on the bait (hopefully anyway) as well as some good video of the bait in action.

I am also organizing a trip with Cal from Tackletour.com to do an on the water introduction to the Snack size trout some time towards the end of the month.

The new chartreuse shad will be available by this weekend and Outdoor Pro Shop in Rohnert Park or on-line at Monster Tackle
